Description |
Commemorative plate from Ridgefield's 250th anniversary, which was celebrated in 1958. The center of the plate features a blue-and-white drawing of the Hawley House, known as the oldest house in Ridgefield, with the text "Ridgefield Connecticut 1708-1958." The rim of the plate features drawings of (starting top center to right side) the Keeler Tavern, the house of author Samuel Goodrich or "Peter Parley," a portion of the Indian Trading Post, Smith's Tavern, the Stebbins House at the barricade in the Battle of Ridgefield, and the house of Revolutionary War soldier Lieutenant Joshua King. The rim also features drawings of two cannons and cannonballs, a patriot soldier, a Hessian soldier, the Connecticut state flag, and a Native American man, with the back identifying each of the houses pictured. |
