Cass Jr. became an architect like his father. He worked with his father on some of his major commissions and completed the U. S. Supreme Court Building after his father’s death. 2nd Lt. Cass Gilbert, Jr. enlisted on November 27, 1917 and joined the 17th Field Artillery, 2nd Division unit. He saw action in the Verdun, Chateau Thierry, Belleau Woods, Soissons, Champagne, Argonne and several other engagements. He was discharged on June 5, 1919 in Washington D.C. |
