David Watson 9/13/06 WW2OH 4 Photos David was born in Toronto,Canada in 1920.His family moved to Scotland for a few years and later moved to NYC in 1927. When David was a freshman at Yale he signed up for the naval ROTC. After graduation he was assigned to a destroyer the Charles F. Hughes. The destroyer did convoy duty in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Later in 1945, the destroyer and crew travelled through the Panama Canal to the Pacific for more convoy duty. Plans were being made for the invasion of Japan when the war ended. The Charles F. Hughes continued convoy duty after the surrender and the men were discharged according to the point system. |
