Doris Hoyt Ventres 2/26/2008 3 photos Doris Hoyt Ventres was born in February 1929 in her grandparent's house at 22 Catoonah Street next to the firehouse. Doris's grandfather was Harry M.Thomas, the blacksmith. His shop was in the barn behind the house. She grew up on the Swain farm on Ruscoe Rd.in Wilton. She attended the Center School in Wilton until the sixth grade. Later she went to the Gilbert and Bennett School in Georgetown where most of the students were Swedish and their fathers worked in the wire mill. Doris has been writing to members of the armed forces for thirty-nine years starting with the Vietnam war. She first started sending members of the Congregational Church a testament. Later she expanded her plan to write to all town residents who are in the armed services. |
