Fred Montanari 06/12/06 WW2OH 4 photos Fred was born in Ridgefield on the Doubleday Farm on Peaceable Street in 1921. After graduating from high school in 1939 he was drafted into the army. He went to the University of California in Santa Clara specializing in mechanical engineering until he was called to duty in the regular army. He traveled from England to France and was sent to his first combat experience with the 11th Armored Division in Bastonne in the Battle of the Bulge. Fred worked as a combat engineer working in demolition setting and deactivating mines. |
