Biography and obituary of George S. Gardiner, one of the pioneers in the development of the lumber industry in the southern United States. (Bio and obituary from the "American Lumberman" publication, obituary from the Press.) Mr. Gardiner died on May 29th, 1921, in Ridgefield, where he and his wife had a summer home. Included is a note card featuring a painting of the home the Gardiner's built in Laurel, Mississippi, which greatly resembles the Lounsbury House. There is also a 1997 letter from Robert G. Hynson, Gardiner's great-grandson to Mr. & Mrs. Jim Amreins of Main Street in Ridgefield. |
