Jack Daniels 10/9/2006 WW2OH Jack served in the Army Air Corps starting in 1942. His job was to keep training records for the 474th bomb squadron at Bartsdale Field in Louisiana. Later he was sent to other training bases in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. In June 1945 he was sent to Paris and was attached to SHAEF, Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces Europe. After the war in Europe ended Jack was back in the States and wanted to return to France, so in 1946 he transferred to the quartermaster corps and was called to active duty in the American Graves Registration Command. His job as operations officer was to ensure that the remains of American soldiers killed in action were buried in France or sent home according to the family's wishes. Jack also served as operations officer at a military cemetery in Cambridge England. |
