The Wawonaissa Nature Club began in Ridgefield in 1923. The first meeting was held on May 15, 1923. "Five boys gathered together in the study at Karl's house and began the first doings of the Club by electing Charles D. Crouchley, Jr. Chairman and Charles A Federer Jr. Secretary pro tem. The others present were C.Belden Nicholas, Howard L. Bassett and Karl S. Nash." "It was suggested that each member have a certain subject in nature (e.g. birds, animals and insects, flowers, stars, and trees and shrubs) to read or talk about at meetings." The last entry was November 26, 1928 |
